Background

The Cairngorms National Park contains some of the finest nature in the UK.

Important habitats include

• the largest extent of native Scots pine woodland anywhere in Britain . 
• an abundance of well managed heather moorland . 
• the Cairngorms Plateau which is the largest continuous high mountain area in Britain.

These habitats provide homes for several iconic species of plants and animals such as red deer, red squirrel, golden eagle, capercaillie, red grouse, dotterel, crested tit, heather, twinflower and many others.
